Mappings of the building materials and their condition as well as restoration reference areas on the tower ruin of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in BerlinAs an important preliminary step to the planned restoration measures at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in the district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf in Berlin, Restaurierung am Oberbaum (RAO) was commissioned to do the mapping of the building materials and their condition and, subsequently, to carry out trials and present restoration reference areas. On the basis of the mappings, damage mechanisms could be analyzed and assessed. In addition, necessary measures were localized and quantified. Through the creation of the restoration reference areas, various methods and materials could be examined with regard to their technical and aesthetic suitability and their appropriateness regarding the standards of historic monument preservation
The results served as a basis for the tendering of services for the restoration of the whole tower ruin.
